The most frequent source of pain is a small cushion inside the knee which is prone to tearing (rupture of the medial or lateral meniscus).
Once the diagnosis is established using physical examination, exploration using a camera (arthoscopy of the knee and partial meniscectomy or meniscal repair) remains the preferred course of evaluation and treatment.
